How to Ship Items in Their Own Packaging [Step-by-Step guide]

Modified on Thu, 6 Mar at 3:44 PM

You can ship items in their own packaging instead of combining them with others in a single package. For example, this may be required to comply with regulations, meet client requirements, or align with business rules.

If these items are part of a larger order, techSHIP can be configured to remove them from the original package allocated by the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and assign them to a separate one with their specific dimensions, regardless of whether cartonization is enabled.

WARNING: Before proceeding, ensure you are familiar with handling items within techSHIP and that the items table is correctly set up with accurate item dimensions.

The option that enables this behavior for a specific item is Ship In Own Packaging. When enabled:

  • The item is removed from any existing package, even if cartonization is applied.
  • A new package is created with its exact dimensions.
  • If multiple items are included in the order, each item gets its own package (e.g., 3 items = 3 packages).

Items that are not marked for this option will follow the standard cartonization process.

The following diagram summarizes the described scenarios:

To ship an item in its own packaging:

1. Find the desired client by clicking on My Clients from the left menu under the Clients section.

2. Edit the desired client by clicking the Settings button.

3. Click Items tab.

4. Press Edit for the desired item.

5. Check Ship In Own Packaging.

6. Press Save and go to step 4 for each item you want to ship in its own packaging.

The edited items will be immediately assigned to separate packages.
