How to avoid getting charged by Estimated Weight or Dimensions [Step-by-Step guide]

Modified on Thu, 11 Jul at 1:01 PM

If dimensions are missing in a shipment and weight is present, some carriers might allow so and charge estimations, potentially leading to overcharges if compared to a shipment quoted with precise weight and dimensions.

This issue can be assessed through two means:

  • Forcing requiring dimensions at the Baseline Account level, affecting every Billing Account set under it
  • Forcing requiring dimensions at the Billing Account level, only affecting the Billing Accounts that have the setting on

This article describes both methods, follow the steps below according to your preferred setup:

BASELINE ACCOUNT LEVEL

1. Access Maintenance and select Carriers

2. Click the Carrier for which you'll change the setting from the list

3. Click the Accounts tab

4. Click Edit Account

5. Check Dimensions Required

6. Press Save to apply the changes

BILLING ACCOUNT LEVEL

1. Access Clients under the Maintenance menu

2. Click on the client related to the setup

3. Edit the Billing Account for which you wish to change the setting

4. Change Dimensions Required from Default (order determined) to Enabled, to force every order to require having dimensions

5. Press Save to apply changes
