02 - How to manifest [Step-by-Step guide]

Modified on Mon, 8 Jul at 9:13 AM

The final step in shipment processing within Techship is conducting the end of day process for each carrier, also known as manifest processing.

Even though this is usually referred as an "end of day process" it can be performed multiple times in a day, but are normally done prior to the courier arrival for shipment pickup.

NOTE: This section shows active, and closed manifests of the current day. To review or operate with prior manifests, access the Manifest History section.

Once you manifest, the following information is sent from techShip to your WMS (as long as the WMS supports it) to update the orders' information.

  • Carrier
  • Service Level
  • Tracking number (on both order and package level, this last one if possible to be detected)
  • Freight charge

During this process we update the WMS system, notify the carrier of a shipment being ready (optional) and, if supported by the courier, generate a manifest

WARNING: You should only manifest when you are sure you don't have to perform changes to the orders. Once manifesting you will not be able to do so, because not only the WMS gets updated, but the orders information is sent to the Carrier as well.

WARNING: Reopening closed/manifested batches (as described here: How to Reopen a Closed Batch [Step-by-step guide]) does not guarantee that you will get refunds from the carrier for the cancelled shipments; make sure you reach your carriers' representatives to verify if it is possible. For example, Canada Post will not refund shipments that have already been manifested.

Feel free to watch the following video or follow the written instructions below:

The steps for manifesting are straighforward:

1. Access Finalize Manifest in the Orders dropdown

2. Select the action you want to perform to the corresponding manifest ID. The possible options are:

  • Finalize: Transmits the orders to the Carrier to confirm pickup and downloads the paper manifest if available (depending on the carrier). If successful, techShip updates (and closes if set up) the WMS with the orders of the manifest.

  • Download: Downloads the paper manifest if available (depending on the carrier).

  • Retry: Retries manifesting if there were errors.

  • Errors: Downloads or shows the errors related to the process.

  • Warnings: Downloads or shows the warnings related to the process.

Once the Manifest process finishes, if your carrier handles digital manifests, you won't have to print any information
If your carrier uses paper manifests, a PDF file will be downloaded, which you will have to print and hand over to the driver upon pickup.

NOTE: If you need to reprint a manifest or download the details, you can access Manifests under the Maintenance dropdown.
