How to port a UPS Baseline account from another portal [Step-by-Step guide]

In some cases, you might need to set up a UPS Carrier account in a portal which was already set up in another one.


NOTE: This article describes how to set up the Carrier baseline account.
If the Carrier baseline account has already been set up and you intend to add a new Billing Account at the Client level, refer to: How to add and set up a UPS Billing Account [Step-by-Step guide]


Depending on the connection type (REST or SOAP) your account has been set up under, the procedure is slightly different.


The keys and credentials used in the original setups (registered or configured) will need to be retrieved, copied and used in the new, ported accounts.


The retrieval and procedures are described below.


PORT A UPS SOAP ACCOUNT 


In the ORIGINAL (SOURCE) SETUP portal, retrieve the credentials:


1. Access Maintenance and select Carriers


2. Click the UPS Carrier under which the account was registered


3. Click the Accounts tab


4. Click Edit in the row of the origin account



5. Access the Carrier section and copy:

  • Access Key
  • Username
  • Password
  • (Optional) UPS Mail Innovations rate keys:
    • MI Customer Number
    • MI Customer guid
    • (Optional) MI Rate Timeout



Now that you have retrieved the credentials, follow the steps below at the DESTINATION PORTAL:


1. Access Maintenance and select Carriers


2. Click the Carrier for which you'll add the account to from the list


3. Click the Accounts tab


4. Click Add Account



5. In General Options set:

  1. Name -> UPS - [Account number] (e.g. UPS - 500000)
  2. Usage mode -> Production (if you will use it in production mode) 
  3. Status -> Active
  4. Label mode -> ZPL
  5. SCAC -> Carrier/SCAC code you're using in the WMS 



6. In Carrier Options set and Save using the credentials you got from the Source Portal:


REQUIRED

  1. Access Key -> UPS API Key
  2. Username -> UPS Portal Username
  3. Password - > UPS Portal Password
  4. Sender address info -> Warehouse induction address

OPTIONAL

  1. Contact name -> Warehouse Contact information
  2. Pickup open/close/ready hours -> Warehouse pick up open and pick up close time, as well as Ready Hours (how many hours will it take you to be ready from your open time)
  3. Mail Innovations Customer Number / GUID -> If you need Mail Innovations rates, complete with the Mail Innovations Customer number and GUID


Once ready, you can proceed to set up Billing Accounts at the Client Level.


PORT A UPS REST ACCOUNT 


In the ORIGINAL (SOURCE) SETUP portal, retrieve the credentials:


1. Access Maintenance and select Carriers


2. Click the UPS Carrier under which the account was registered


3. Click the Accounts tab


4. Click Edit in the row of the origin account



5. Access the Carrier section and copy:

  • Registration ID
  • (Optional) UPS Mail Innovations rate keys:
    • MI Customer Number
    • MI Customer guid
    • (Optional) MI Rate Timeout


Now that you have retrieved the credentials, follow the steps below at the DESTINATION PORTAL:


1. Access Maintenance and select Carriers


2. Click the UPS Carrier under which the account was registered


3. Click the Accounts tab


4. Click Add Account



5. In General Options set:

  1. Usage mode -> Production (if you will use it in production mode) 
  2. Status -> Active
  3. Label mode -> ZPL
  4. SCAC -> Carrier/SCAC code you're using in the WMS 



6. In Carrier Options set and Save:


REQUIRED

  1. Registration ID -> UPS Key
  2. Sender address info -> Warehouse induction address

OPTIONAL

  1. Pickup mode -> Select how the pickup process should be handled (Manual, Regular, Dropoff, etc.)
  2. Contact name -> Warehouse Contact information
  3. Pickup open/close/ready hours -> Warehouse pick up open and pick up close time, as well as Ready Hours (how many hours will it take you to be ready from your open time)
  4. Mail Innovations Customer Number / GUID -> If you need Mail Innovations rates, complete with the Mail Innovations Customer number and GUID


Once ready, you can proceed to set up Billing Accounts at the Client Level.
