Understanding Shipment Line Numbering and Reconciliation [Information]

Modified on Wed, 1 Apr at 4:51 PM

When processing complex orders like bundles, techOMS automatically recalculates line numbers before updating your Sales Channel.

This article explains how techOMS generates shipment line numbers, handles bundle components, and reconciles backorders.

Understanding Order Line Numbering

Original Sales Order line numbers are always preserved for historical reference.

However, during fulfillment, techOMS generates new, sequential line numbers within the Lines tab of the resulting Shipment. This creates a clean, organized picking sequence for your warehouse team, especially when orders are split or contain exploded Bundle components.

Managing Bundles in techOMS

A Bundle groups multiple individual SKUs into a single purchasable item on your Sales Channel.

When shipping an order containing a Bundle, its Lines tab automatically expands to show every individual component required. This ensures the warehouse picks the exact physical items needed to complete the Shipment.

Reconciliation and Fallback Process

In techOMS, the reconciliation process acts as an automatic translator between your warehouse operations and your Sales Channel.

While your warehouse uses operational picking sequences for a Shipment, your Sales Channel requires updates matching the original Sales Order. techOMS automatically translates this data back into its original format to ensure accurate fulfillment confirmations.

If a specific line item is out of stock during this process, the system automatically places the affected Sales Order into a Backordered or Pending status. This isolates the shortage and allows the rest of your queue to continue processing without interruption.

NoteBecause this reconciliation happens transparently in the background, the original Lines on the Sales Order remain completely unaffected by these operational adjustments.

Once new inventory syncs, techOMS automatically attempts to re-allocate stock to backorders using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) logic, updates the Sales Order status, and generates the final Shipment.
