You can manually set up a custom rates table for a specific carrier to use your own custom rates instead of the carrier's.
You can either use this guide or import a modified custom rate table from the attached XLSX template below. If you choose the latter, use this article to learn how to fill it.
The expected results of using the Rates Table apply to Rate Shopping and Explicit Carrier and Service Import (explicit selection of a Carrier and Service Level) scenarios as detailed below:
ORDER FEATURES | RATE SHOPPING | EXPLICIT CARRIER AND SERVICE |
Order matching a defined range | Rate is returned according to the matching range | Rate is returned according to the matching range |
Order out of range | Rates Not Found error message is displayed | Order is processed but with rate returned as zero |
Definitions and considerations to take into account are the following:
- Order matching a defined range: An order that based on its values (weight, ship-to address, etc.) has a corresponding match with a defined range within the Custom Rates table
- Order out of range: An order that based on its values (weight, ship-to address, etc.) has a corresponding does NOT match with a defined range within the Custom Rates table
- When Rates are returned, taxes and markups can be also applied, depending on the Carrier response and Billing Account Setup
To set up a custom rates table for a specific carrier:
1. Find the desired carrier by clicking on My Carriers from the left menu under the Carriers section.
2. Edit the desired carrier by clicking the Settings button.
3. If needed, enable custom rates by checking the corresponding box and pressing Save.
4. Click on the Rates tab.
5. Press Add Rate + to manually add rates one by one.
6. Enter the custom rate definition.
You can use wildcards and markup, among other features. Refer to the Custom Rates Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for more details.
7. Press Add Rate and go to step 5 as many times as needed.
WARNING: Make sure to prevent gaps and cover a full range while defining weight ranges. E.g. define 8 to 9 and 9 to 10 instead of defining 8 to 9 and 9.01 to 10. Having gaps in the custom rates table will lead to unstable behavior.
If you need to correct a specific value, click the edit button (A); if you need to delete it, click the delete button (B).
Now you have a custom rates table enabled for this specific carrier.
